Lost Shores is still heavily involved behind the scenes with the Route 16 Thunder Rally. It all started with ‘3 guys and a 6 pack’ early in the pandemic and has survived, grown and looks ready to grow again in 2024. We asked for a smaller role in 2022 and the Canso Area Development Association took over admin and financials and we re-named it Route 16 Thunder Rally. I still help with marketing and in August I join the crew to help run the event and grab a few photos along the way.

It’s been fun seeing the event grow each year, even through the pandemic. The poker run is a ton of fun and has become the biggest parade in our municipality with kids and locals cheering us on all along the routes. Moving the event from September to August has made it much more welcoming to our camping visitors and easier to piggy back off the much larger Stanfest event. Best of all, we’re getting better at using the event to raise money for local youth hockey and figure skating with $3000 passed along from the 2023 event.
